They are viewed as sound and dependable and - despite all kinds of tempting offers from competitors - like hardwood and ceramic floors, granite kitchen work tops, coffered ceilings in oval foyers or living rooms, or the inclusion of six appliances - they simply carry on constructing conventional houses without frills. And plenty of people continue to buy them.
The Evergreen is Monarch's largest detached 2-storey 4 bedroom home at 3552 square feet, and built on 50ft wide lots. They offer three different elevation designs; all of them imposing and elegant as befitting such a tasteful luxury home.
Entered from beneath an imposing porch, we are brought into an elegant foyer with a ceramic tiled floor and an oval coffered ceiling. An arch on our left opens up our sight-line through a front living room with a bow window - so that we already catch a glimpse of the curvaceous effect the designer was after.
A powder room on our right is positioned also for entry through a double garage, and close to a coat closet outside a home office or study. Garage entry is through a laundry room with a second coat closet.
Beyond that, and more or less at the centre of the main level, is a straight staircase rising from the right-hand side. And the curvaceous theme is repeated with the wall of the formal dining room, which also features a coffered ceiling.
As we continue through another archway, we are led into a large Great Room with a gas fire, and an adjoining island kitchen with a generous breakfast room extending from it. The centre island with its double sink features a curved snack counter.
To add to the designer's obvious love affair with curves, the breakfast room features a bow window too.
Although nothing so ostentatious as a free-floating Scarlett O'Hara staircase, the stairs do rise onto a landing where they are surrounded on all sides by the corridors of an upstairs hall, with a built-in seat beneath a tall window straight ahead. Circle the landing and we find the entire rear of the Evergreen is taken up by the master suite - with a huge walk-in closet the size of a dressing room, and a private luxury bathroom with Roman Tub and separate shower stall, and, also, an optional gas fireplace.
The other three bedrooms are situated on the other side of the stairs; two sharing a second bathroom, and the third with its own en-suite bathroom. Between them, a computer nook leads out onto a balcony, which is a neat touch, considering the necessity of stretching periodically after spending hours seated at a computer!
Why did we award five stars for this excellent design? Because it is certainly one of the best dignified and elegant larger family homes we have seen in Ottawa, with well-located appointments and excellent use of space. And it is unusual for Monarch, considering the Evergreen's distinctively feminine touch featuring curved ceilings, walls and bow windows.
As well as being aesthetically pleasing, the Evergreen is also eminently practical. In short, it is the type of family home we would all enjoy living in, if we had a large enough family to bring it alive, and if we could afford it. Thumbs up for the designer!

Why buy an Ottawa new home from an Ottawa home builder, rather than a Resale
:
FAVORABLE PRICING
Competition among Ottawa home builder's makes new homes less likely to to overpriced. Ottawa New homes are easy to compare with others in the market equating apples to apples. The homes are the same age and options are declared up front with a breakdown of prices for comparative shopping.
NEW HOME WARRANTIES
Ottawa New home buyers are assured of a warranty on the home itself and on major appliances, including air conditioning and heating systems. Today's Ottawa home builder's extend the Tarion warrenty, which includes structural elements.
HOMESITE SELECTION
Location, location, location. Being able to select just the right new home community and lot is almost as important as choosing the right home for your life-style. Ottawa home builders offer a wide selection of lots including golf course locations, waterfront, rural, estate lots and more.
LATEST MATERIALS
Low maintenance is one of the most important features of new homes being built today in Ottawa. New technologies and building materials are virtually maintenance free, especially on the exterior. Homeowners no longer have to worry about painting every 3 to 5 years.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
A new home built today is required by law to meet stricter energy codes than homes built in the past, when codes either didn't exist or were much more lenient. Many Ottawa home builder's use materials that are designed to exceed the strict limits to produce future savings for home owners.
COMPATIBLE NEIGHBORS
In most new Ottawa communities buyers will be moving in with neighbors that, in general, have similar circumstances. In older communities, new-comers may have more difficulty fitting-in to the already established social setting.
SIMPLIFIED FINANCING
Securing financing is the major obstacle to home ownership. Most Ottawa home builder's have done the leg work for you. They have researched the best rates for their specific type of Housing, with established lenders that know the products.
