Minto are to be congratulated for adapting one of their most popular townhouse designs, The Helmsley, to provide a picturesque and accommodating detached 2-Storey house. In the case of Barrhaven, they are located close to the school off of Strandherd Road.
Readers will recall how, a few years ago, we studied and analyzed the 24ft wide Helmsley and were impressed by what it provided for home buyers, and gave it our 5-Star Award For Design Excellence. Since this is basically the same size module, it is possible to include a comfortable front home office with a 9ft ceiling beside the front entrance. A square powder room is located between office and stairwell, with a coat closet beside it.
The advantage of a square configuration is that there is more room to move in the less confined space that typify long and narrow powder rooms. Surprisingly however - perhaps even accidentally - the powder room is windowless (unlike in The Helmsley town house). Nor is a window featured in the stairwell. Should prospective buyers want them included, they might ask Minto's sales people if one or other or both could be added.
The house opens up beyond those two rooms and the one-car garage on the other side, into a large 13'4 x 18'9 Great Room with a gas fire. It is open to an adjacent open kitchen and breakfast room.
There are three bedrooms upstairs, including a fairly spacious master bedroom with space for a sitting area. The master suite includes an en-suite bathroom with Roman Tub and a walk-in closet large enough to dress in. Having referred to its adaptation from the best-selling Helmsley town house design, we should point out that there is one less window in the en-suite bathroom ,which is no problem. The other two bedrooms are virtually identical.
The Hudson earns our HomesExplorer 5-Star Award for Design Excellence. For those who prefer a separate living room instead of a home office, Minto provides another model with a side entrance, named The Regency.
