In-house designers are not normally known to the buying public (Barry J.Hobin, for example, whose name is associated with a series of Tamarack-built homes in Barrhaven and a series built by Uniform Developments in Stonebridge, is an independent architect). But Lalonde has been designing homes as part of Holitzner's team for over 20 years. And his sophisticated design skills, his imagination and good taste, are clearly evident in most Holitzner home designs.
What many builders typically do to produce a range of townhouse designs for a new development is simply to dust-off the old plans and use them again, based on the fact that they sold out the last time. But when Holitzner's designer was faced with a new challenge at Brookside, he dismissed old solutions and started all over again with a keen eye on the new market segment and new trends. What the Japanese call Kaizen, which aims at constant improvements.
All of Holitzner's 10 townhomes at Brookside are superior designs in their class. Our problem was to decide which one most deserved our 5-Star Design Award, because each has been designed as an alternative for particular buyers to choose from.
Since each design is created for distinctively different personal preferences and life-styles, each provides an option to its en-suite bathroom and its Loft by offering a luxury en-suite bathroom with separate shower stall and Roman Tub instead of the standard, and a full upstairs Laundry in place of (in some cases) an upstairs closet with washer & dryer.
The following are those features in each which stand out, for comparison:

In order to provide added value, Holitzner have cleverly increased the width of their Brookside Selection to a minimum of 22ft (exterior to exterior) for inside homes, and 24ft for some End Units.
So obviously they must cost a little more than typical standard 20ft mass market townhomes. But since you'll undoubtedly want to live in these Holitzner homes for a long time, they are well worth paying higher prices for. And it goes without saying that these townhomes are for discerning home-buyers who want the best available.
Current Holitzner management, the next generation of the Holitzner family, have had a head-start because the Holitzner brand name already denoted Quality on one hand, and Tasteful Design on the other. As a new generation of home developers, they have paid attention to new customer trends and continued to encourage their designer to set high standards for Holitzner homes. The latest Brookside offering proves how committed Holitzner still is to providing incomparable design quality in the Ottawa market. In our opinion, they are far ahead of any other current townhouse designs.
Our design award could have gone to any of several of these 10 Holitzner designs.
But our Award must go to the Mayflower, (which is in their medium price range), principally because of the one distinctive feature not seen anywhere else. This is the 10'x9' Sunroom at the far end, to be especially appreciated during those long winter months. The Mayflower End Unit is 22ft wide.
We have been assured that the inclusion of a Sunroom leaves an 8 metre backyard beyond it. And therefore approximately 11 metres from the Great Room which provides access to it. (Normal back yard length for designs without a Sunroom is 9m or 29'5).
The Dining Room in the Mayflower is an alternative to having a Breakfast Room in the kitchen area. In this design, the Open Kitchen is situated in the corner of what amounts to a 22ft x 22'8 open space. It also provides a raised Snack Bar on the island containing an angled double sink and dishwasher.
It depends on the profile of your own family, its size and needs, as to whether you would choose an upstairs Laundry instead of a Loft, or a Luxury En-Suite Bathroom in place of the standard. In this design the Master Bedroom is 11'x17'7 with a sloped section of ceiling over the window.
Brookside is situated East of Klondike at March Road, Kanata. Holitzner have limited the number of their townhomes to only four in a row, with brick facades, and each with its own single car garage. They range in size from 1566 Sq Ft of finished space on the two main levels to 1995 Sq Ft. They are scheduled for Fall, 2006 Occupancies.
