Among the embarrassment of riches in Kanata Estates is a respected custom home builder not often featured on this site. We decided to see what Cardel have to offer at the present moment. And it happens that they have just introduced a beautiful model home for The Banfield. Since a luxurious 4-bedroom single family home the size of 3,302 Sq Ft with 4 bathrooms at a price of over half a million dollars is hardly what every home buyer is looking for, we decided to compare it with one of their smaller and quite different designs, The Belcourt, which is a 2-bedroom bungalow of 1,903 Sq Ft.
Custom builders, like Cardel, generally build one magnificent show home to take your breath away with admiration and envy at the imagination and quality of their design and craftsmanship, so that individuals can pick out the finer features that make the custom builder distinctively different from all the other builders. Then the builder can sell buyers up to something even more luxurious, or down in price to something similar but smaller or more economical. Or they can customize the design according to each particular buyer's special wishes or needs.
This 2-storey detached home is situated in a private cul-de-sac close to parkland, recreations, transport, schools and shopping. So location is also a consideration when comparing prices. So is the size of the lot. It was designed for 50ft or 60ft wide lots.
It possesses a large living & dining room area, an island kitchen with an adjoining breakfast room, and a walk-in pantry. A gas-fire is situated in the 2-level family room. This design also features a study. An elegantly curvaceous staircase sweeps upstairs to the luxurious master suite with all the appointments and finishes we would expect from a custom builder aiming to please this particularly discerning and demanding market segment.
The laundry is located on the bedroom level, where most of the linen and towels and clothing is found. There is also a loft. The en-suite bathroom features a travertine floor, double washbasins, wall tiles, and a glassed-in shower stall. It also includes something rarely provided by Ottawa's home builders - a separate private toilet in the master suite.
For younger couples or downsizing older ones, we also recommend you examine the beautiful Belcourt bungalow with a 2-car garage, two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the main level.
It features a separate dining room and also a den or office. It too includes that special appointment we referred to - namely a private toilet in the bathroom of the master suite. We plan to study this design in more detail if and when Cardel decide to build another show home.
